Learn about our Medical Center

UPDATE: One of our volunteers was nice enough to tell us about her experience working with us:

Who are we?

We are a 501(c)(3) charity devoting all of our time, energy and resources to improving the health, education and wellbeing of people in Fiji's remote northern islands. Our Federal Tax ID # is 20-0548484.

Our Medical Center

In 2010, we built the Savusavu's (the town where we operate in Fiji) largest private health clinic. Prior to the clinic's existence, locals would have to visit the government hospital and wait up to 10 hours to be seen for something as simple as an infected cut. We also brought the first pharmacy to the region, introducing medicines from Australia, New Zealand, and the United States. We wanted our community to have the highest standard of care possible, so we hired the best doctor available - Dr. Mohammed Ishaque. We are able to offer care for a couple of afflictions that were previously untreated in our region - most notably arthritis and diabetes. We were also the first health clinic to begin dispensing Nicorette for tobacco addicts. Our medical clinic consists of two doctor's offices, two consultation rooms, and two overnight rooms, each with 4 beds. We built our medical center over hot springs to provide the heat for our water, making the building one of the most sustainable in the region. While ecologically sustainable, our medical center will soon be financially sustainable. When it reaches that point, it will simply be a Savusavu institution, unaffiliated with NGF. That's what we work toward - creating projects and institutions that will last for generations to come.
